The new Boston Dynamics Atlas is a complete redesign of the legendary hydraulic Atlas platform, now featuring an all-electric actuation system built from the ground up for commercial applications. Standing at 150 cm and weighing 89 kg with 28 degrees of freedom, the new Atlas represents Boston Dynamics’ transition from research demonstrations to practical, deployable humanoid robots. Backed by Hyundai Motor Group, Atlas is being developed for real-world industrial use cases.
A New Era for Atlas
The original hydraulic Atlas became famous through viral videos of parkour, backflips, and dynamic movement that seemed to defy the limits of robotics. The new electric Atlas retains this legacy of exceptional mobility while adding the reliability, efficiency, and quieter operation needed for commercial environments. Its compact form factor and electric drive system make it more practical for factory floors and logistics centers.
